1 Corinthians
An Online Bible Study
by Paul George
Perhaps no church of the New Testament is as symbolic
of the problems facing the modern church today as was
the Corinthian church. The church had so many
problems that Paul had to write at least three letters
to address situations there, two of which have been
preserved in the Bible. First and foremost, the
Corinthian church had problems with divisions. They had
allowed small, nit picky items to tear them apart and cause
problems, just as the church today.
Along with addressing the problems of division in the
Corinthian church, Paul pens some of the most recognizable
chapters of all of the Bible in 1 Corinthians. Paul must
tackle the issue of sexual immorality head on and declares that
our members with Christ Himself. He expands upon this in
chapter 7 by discussing marriage advice and reiterating Jesus'
teaching on divorce. 1 Corinthians 12 contains the most
extensive look at spiritual gifts in all the Bible as Paul
declares that no one should look down on another's gift because
we are all one body. 1 Corinthians 13 is the love chapter of
the Bible, recited most often at weddings. There Paul
gives us the definition of true Christian love. And in 1
Corinthians 15, we have an in depth look at the resurrection of
Christ and the anticipated resurrection of believers. We
are also given an idea of what our resurrection bodies will be
like. 1 Corinthians tackles a broad range of topics that the
modern church is facing today. Any church or individual
that is in need of a good shot in the arm should make it a
priority to study this fascinating book. Obeying the words
of God through Paul will go a long way to solving many problems
in the church today. |
